Our Mission:

  • To develop individuals who can contribute to an international society.
  • To create a nurturing creative environment.

Why are we different?

  • IKP has an international focus and encourages integration of multicultural children.
  • We provide educational services as opposed child care services.
  • The center uses a Project Based approach to learning, which is centered around child-led learning activities.
  • We have a small teacher to child ratio to enhance the children's learning experience.
  • We provide highly qualified teachers to facilitate above average educational services.
  • Our Toddler, Pre School and After School Programs are developed by highly trained staff and tailored to each age group.
  • We have a very educationally-focused after school program to compliment and enhance the state elementary school curriculum.

What is Project Approach?

A project is an in-depth investigation of a real world topic worthy of children's attention and effort. Projects can be undertaken with children of any age. The Project Approach refers to a set of teaching strategies, which enable teachers to guide children through in-depth studies of real world topics.

How does it work?

Exploration The project is introduced with a provocation – a stimulating event or activity that gets children thinking about the topic. Teachers carefully note children’s reactions, questions, comments, and ideas.

Organization Children’s ideas and questions are developed into learning activities for further exploration. Their ideas are documented through drawings, construction, photographs, writing, and videotapes etc. Through reflection children are guided into deeper experiences on the same topic.

Discussion / representation Throughout the project, children share their solutions, answers, and feelings about activities, which are noted by the teachers. The children’s current ideas are compared and contrasted to their initial ideas and the ideas of their teachers. Each day’s activities build on the previous day’s events.

Summary experience Finally, a culminating experience takes place, after which teachers conduct an evaluation with the children. Everyone looks at what they have learned and accomplished.

Through the Project Approach the foundation learning areas contribute to lifelong learning particularly through their promotion of the following:

  • Literacy
  • Numeracy
  • Creativity
  • Collaborative skills
  • Skills for planning, gathering and organizing ideas
  • Life Skills
